A Weekly Bake, but not for the faint-hearted….

As there will be no Weekly Bake next week, Halloween has come early to The English Baker’s kitchen.  So, if you are of nervous disposition….look….away…..


Actually, this week’s Weekly Bake is utterly delicious (of course) and not at all scary – no spiders, I promise….

Number one on the list is the very seasonal, Pecan Pie.  However, this is not just any old Pecan Pie, this one is a CHO-CO-LATE Pecan Pie. I have to tell you, The English Baker has been working on this one for a while now and there have been a few versions.  This one, however, received the highest accolade last week, when an American taster told me that she never eats Pecan Pie (ugh?), however this, was “absolutely delicious”.  Don’t take her word for it though – give it a go.  I defy you to resist it’s gooey, chocolatey, nutty, crunchy charms.  By the way, this one also comes in a Gluten-Free option * – so you can eat as much as you like and there’s no fear of being mistaken for the pumpkin!

Which brings me to Number Two on the Weekly Bake menu.  Although still in keeping with the pecan and pumpkin theme, the next item really couldn’t be more different. Savoury Pumpkin, Rosemary and Pecan Muffins.  Although as understated as the Pecan Pie is extravagant, these warmed gently in the oven before serving are the ultimate comfort food.  Delicious with a nice slice of Cheddar, or dunked in a big bowl of steaming soup or even simply with a generous knob of butter, you decide.  Perfect for an Autumn supper…
